American Airlines recently made enhancements to Main Cabin Extra to include beer, wine and spirits on routes with full drink service. It also appears they are piloting the ability to reserve light meals in the main cabin on certain routes.
On a recent trip (ORD-SFO-ORD), I was able to see the Reserve a meal section on my trip details page.
My initial reaction was that my upgrade cleared, however when I opened the menu, I was pleasantly surprised to see that I can now pre-order light meals in the main cabin.
While the menu shows prices for these items, they are still complimentary for Executive Platinum passengers seated in the main cabin. Other passengers have reported also seeing this option on routes such as DFW-LGA and LAX-DFW.
Although certain routes may offer the pre-order, availability still varies based on flight time. For example, this means that light snacks are only available from 9:45am-8:00pm and on flights over 3 hours.
